The people who make buildings are making a new part for a hotel in Italy. They want to make it in a way that is good for the environment and fits in with the pretty scenery around it.

From the architect: This new building is in the mountains and has special rooms with outdoor areas and places inside to relax. There's also a cool sauna that you can get to by walking on a high path. The building blends in with the mountain and makes you feel like you're really connected to nature.
The Olympic Spa Hotel in Vigo di Fassa wanted to make their hotel bigger and better, but they didn't want to ruin the pretty scenery around it. So, they asked NOA to help them add more rooms and a new sauna in a way that would make the hotel blend in with the mountains and be good for the environment. This will make guests feel like they are really a part of the beautiful landscape around them.
“Just like other things we've made before, we started with a basic idea.,” explains architect Stefan Rier, founder of NOA with Lukas Rungger. “We have learned that it is very important to have a clear plan for what we want to build. Even if we start by working on just one part of a big project, we have to remember that it is not just a single thing on its own. It is actually the first step towards a bigger plan that will take shape over time.”
The NOA hotel was built with a special idea in mind. They wanted to make the hotel feel like it was part of the forest and not just on the side of the road. They built some of the rooms underground and near the trees so that guests could feel like they were really close to nature. They also built a sauna in the forest, up high so that guests could have a great view of the trees. Overall, the hotel was designed to make guests feel like they were really connected to nature, even in their rooms.
THE NEW ROOMS
There is a new building with ten rooms and a gym. It looks like a mountain with a pointy part at one end for the big room, and then it gets shorter for the smaller rooms and gym. This special shape makes it easy to recognize and it's supposed to be the hotel's special look.
The building looks like the rocks around it and is made with local materials. This helps it blend in with the environment and is good for the planet. The building is also designed to take up less space.
IN TOUCH WITH NATURE
The hotel has a special room that is built partly underground, so that guests can feel like they are closer to nature. To get to this room, you have to go through a secret underground tunnel.
The new rooms in the hotel have really big windows and a big balcony where you can see the view outside. The rooms are named after a special language that the owners' family likes. The four rooms called 'Te Bosch' are all about the forest and have a special part inside with see-through walls. It's like having your own private space where you can see nature and sunlight all year round. The plants in the special part, a birch tree, and the sky all become part of the room. It's a cool experience for people staying at the hotel. They can pretend they're outside while taking a shower or see snow falling from both sides of the room in winter. It feels like being in the middle of a forest. In summer, they can even sleep outside on beds that hang in the air and have special sleeping bags. They can look up at the stars because there aren't any bright lights to block the view.
The hotel has five special rooms called 'Te Aga' that are all about water. They have a cool fountain made of stone that gives out fresh mountain water from a really high place. This is good because it means people don't have to use plastic bottles. The floors and furniture in all the rooms are made from strong wood from a nearby valley.
At the top of the building, there is a special suite with two levels. The bedroom is on the first level, which is a little lower to make it cozy. On the second level, there is a sauna, shower, and a place to relax. This area has a unique shape and a nice view of the forest.
A TREETOP SAUNA
The new sauna is a special building that is up high and has great views of the trees. It is made out of wood and looks like it belongs in the forest. You can see the forest from inside and outside of the sauna. You have to walk on a special walkway to get to it. The walkway is high up so it doesn't disturb the animals on the ground. Even in the winter, you have to go outside to get to the sauna. This is done so you can enjoy nature while you use the sauna.
MATERIALS AND BUILDING SOLUTIONS
The annex is built with really strong concrete and some parts of the roof have plants growing on it. It's like the building is partly buried in the ground.
“Our idea is for hotels to have something that helps them with lots of things they need to do.,” Stefan Rier points out. “Burying a part of the structure means putting it underground. This is a good idea, especially in pretty mountain places like the Dolomites, because it makes the building smaller and fits in better with the surroundings.”
FURNITURE AND FABRICS
The hotel furniture is made of special wood called oak, which has knots. This wood is good for the environment and reminds us of the nearby mountains. The furniture also looks like the furniture that is common in the area. The colors are light and natural, with some green to remind us of the pretty forest outside.
FUTURE SCENARIO
In the future, the hotel will build more guesthouses like the first one and a new area for people to relax and take care of their health. They will also make changes to the main building, especially to the outside walls. The walls will be made out of wood and shaped like the mountains. To make it look nicer and not take up too much space, they will bury the first floor underground and make it look like a hill. The new facilities will be underground too.
