The Elements By The New Raw: Crafting beach furniture from recycled marine plastic waste in Greece is a great way to help preserve the environment. This is because by using recycled marine plastic waste, we are reducing the amount of new plastic that is created.

Project's description: The New Raw design studio in Rotterdam created a limited edition beach furniture series made from recycled marine plastic. The pieces are created using a special 3D printing process that uses robots to create them from recycled plastic.

The New Raw is a collection of recycled materials that have been creatively designed and crafted. The designers hope that this collection will help to reduce the amount of plastic that is wasted and create a positive impact on the environment.

The three products in the series are the fitting room, the footpath, and the sunbed. The products are made in a new warehouse lab, and the design is inspired by things you might see near the sea, like dead animals and waves. The sculptural forms of the products are soft and wavy, and they make a comfortable and pleasing experience for the user.

Plastic pollution of the seas is a big problem, but we need to remember that we depend on the sea for food and oxygen. We decided to create The Elements, which are made from recycled plastic from the sea. They are beautiful objects that have a strong storytelling value. - affirms Panos Sakkas and Foteini Setaki, co-founders of The New Raw

The designers worked on a “form follows process” concept for the shaping of this collection. The encoded 3D textures act equally as ornament and as functional components to achieve climatic comfort during use, through natural air ventilation, light irradiation, water drainage and cooling. This digital materiality introduces a new formal vocabulary which redefines the properties and the uses of plastic waste as a material for beach furniture.

The New Raw designs its own clothes using a formal and technical language that highlights the texture and the layer-by-layer character of their designs. The Elements fully embodies this process by programming the robot movement to create patterns, shadows, colors, and layers. Moreover, the geometries of The Elements have been engineered to reduce printing time and assembly.

All of the products in the collection are made from recycled marine plastic. This means that each piece can potentially be recycled into new products.

In summer 2021, a new series of movies will be released called "The New Raw." These movies will be filmed in six different beaches in Greece. To make these movies, 720 kilograms of plastic waste will be used.

The New Raw's 360 degree approach to design and production is based on a vision of a future where everything is made from local, plastic waste materials. This way of thinking will help us to create more sustainable futures for coastal and insular areas, where local production can benefit from global design thinking and be independent of global material supply chains.

The Elements is a collection of beautiful designs that show how to use Balance, Digital Aesthetics, Ergonomics, and Unusual Forms to create a more balanced, attractive, and comfortable environment using plastic waste. At the same time, the collection redefines how we see and use plastic waste by using robotic printing to create a new formal vocabulary and visual language.
